Staff Selection Commission - Combined Graduate Level Examination, also popularly known as to as SSC CGL is an examination which is conducted to recruit officers for various posts in ministries, departments and organisations in the Government of India. It is conducted for various Group B and Group C posts by the Staff Selection Commission.
Candidates who are applying for the various posts need to have at least a bachelor's degree from a govt. recognised university. They should be of Age between 18 and 32 years (it depends on the post applied) as of 1st August of the test taking year. Fee for application for 2017 is Rs. 100, however for all women and candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Physically Handicapped, and Ex-Servicemen who are eligible for reservation are exempted from paying application fee.
The examination has a first round of Preliminary Examination followed by the Main examination. There used to interviews earlier also used to have interviews, but they have been discontinued following a government order. However a computer proficiency test or a skill test is held for some posts.
The preliminary examination 200 marks examination and has 4 sections, which have to be completed in a total time of 60 minutes

- General Awareness
- Quantitative Aptitude
- English Comprehension
The main examination also has four sections. There are 2 compulsory sections (Section 1 and 2) for all candidates who have qualified. and Section 3 and 4 are only for candidates who have applied for special posts.

SSC has also introduced a paper based descriptive paper which can be attempted by candidates in English or Hindi for Essay, Precis & Letter writing. Apart from this a Data Entry Skill Test or a Computer Proficiency Test is also to be held for some positions. This paper replaced the interview of 100 mark.
